TITANIUM LIONS: CONTROVERSY LOOMS

David Lubars, BBDO worldwide creative chief and president of the Titanium Lions jury, has made the following statement:
“Because Titanium is such a prestigious and specialised award, the shortlist is short - 3 in total. We prefer to hold this list to avoid creating too much conjecture before the award ceremony.”
CB hears only one Titanium will be awarded, to Japan. No VB Boonie, no Virgin Mobile 'Jason Donovan', no Lynxjet, no Adidas 'Be the Ball', no Tooheys 'Stolen Glasses'.
What a joke is the common consensus by everyone this morning.
There will be riots in the Palais today and tomorrow when the ad punters hear that!

fuck get over it. Man, aussies really need to get over this "small man" syndrome of constantly needing to be affirmed by the rest of the world. It really makes them look like a forgotten nation on the arse end of the world rather than one that has an active part to play in a global community.

Honestly I say thank god. 521 shortlisted in Film plus new categories like Promo. How many lions can you give out? Lynx is good creatively but I think when we get to the real deal, film, it won't be gold love. Yet it seems to be getting all the press with wins in Direct and Promo, the soft outer shell of Cannes.

Very happy Titanium has gotten back to what it's supposed to be. BMW Films changed advertising. How many of these other ideas are doing that? They are clever and they are great but they are not changing the way we think. Last year, Titanium was a joke. This is totally the right answer.

Go Lubars.

I pretty much agree with you 7:44AM, but it might have been wise for Terry Savage et al to make the entry criteria clear BEFORE they took all the agencies' $$$.

Am I the only advertising person in the world who's ever seen the 'If Carlsberg did airlines...' campaign from about five years ago?

Titanium this year is a massive joke - designer barcodes is not new or exciting. It's nice design at best - not a world changing idea. How very very sad.

I knitted a nice jumper the other day - might enter it in titanium next year. You've never seen a jumper like this. It's blue with white polka dots.

to 7:44am - Lynxjet cleaned up in almost every category and won lions in outdoor and film. It's won more awards across more categories than any other campaign. Don't know what you are talking about - isn't the future based on integrated advertising? It's hardly a "soft outer shell".
