TWO ADDYS FOR INNER CHILD

The gang at Leo Burnett Sydney got good news from their worldwide creative director, Mark Tutsell at Burnetts Chicago that the McDonald's 'Inner Child' spot picked up two gold at The Addys, one for category and one for music from Nylon. If you haven't heard of the Addys, it is the biggest annual show in the US with over 60,000 entries every year. Most Yanks put it up there at least with Clio. Credits go to CD Mark Collis and creative team Stephen Coll and Matt Ryan.

The Addy's really mean not much here, even less than the Clio awards don't really mean much here.

don't believe me? see how and if they are reported in any of the US trade mags or websites.

save your money for cannes, one show, d&ad, and award. the rest mean squat.

too many award shows x 1000 bazillion.

Let's hope that's all that peice of shit work picks up...

Didn't the 'release the midnight monkey' run first with the guy and the monkey coming out of his stomach? Was for some energy drink?

Capt. America, you're obviously not from that great land.
The Clio Awards are reported big time by AdWeek, only because they OWN them. They are not reported by Ad Age and Creativity, because they don't!
Of the big 4 internationals in 2006, The One Show 17,000, the Clios had 19,000 entries, the D&AD Global Awards rocketed to 24,500 and the biggest of all, Cannes attracted 24,860.
However, the world's biggest advertising show in terms of entries is The Addys, run by the American Advertising Federation, with over 60,000 each year. Every agency in the U.S. enters them, including the very hottest ones.

and the world needs three separate American-based international advertising shows, each with the same categories and the same standards... for what, exactly?

We're so desperate to win awards, we'll enter anything. Shit, has there ever been a single awards show launched anywhere in the world that HASN'T taken off?

I like the Inner Child spot. It has a completely different sentiment to the night monkey, and has been done in tv, so hard to compare. It comes from a human truth, is seemlessly executed and the soundtrack is really original and distinctive. Good work guys.

Inner child is awful. Every time I hear the words "just feed your inner child" in that cliched lazy laconic voice I want to vomit. Strategically.just.wrong.

I'm with 5.32. It's a nice idea. But not an idea for McDonalds.

3:31, actually yes i am.

i just wasn't confusing quality and prestige with the number of entries.

hey, there's an award show for every piece of work. you just have to find it's level.

US awards off the top of my head:

One Show. CA. Clios. New York. ADC. Andy's. Addy's. Mobius. Etc. Then all the regional shows, Beldings in LA, SF, Rosey's in Portland then all the specific media shows for print, radio etc.

The good agencies care about and enter the first 2, perhaps the first 3.

Ask the recruiters at Crispin, Wieden or Goodby how much weight they give those other shows.

Too many awards. Too much overlap as somebody else pointed out.

Great, McDonalds is now going to steal the child inside of me too. If it wasn't bad enough that they were making me into a fat fuck.

Inner Child reminds me of that scene from Total Recall

which incidently is exactly how my guts feel after eating Macca's.

Now that's an inner child suitable for Macca's
